HIWA CHURCH
Growing in Hope — Serving in Love
Bakhtyary, Ahmed Mokhtar Jaf Street, Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq
HISTORY OF HIWA CHURCH
Hiwa Church was founded in 2017 in the city of Sulaymaniyah, and in the years since, it has grown steadily into one of the most visible and recognized churches in the city. What began as a small gathering of believers has developed into a vibrant, multi-generational congregation with an expanding network of ministries, programs, and community initiatives.
VISION OF HIWA CHURCH IN KURDISTAN AND THE MIDDLE EAST
Hiwa Church envisions itself as a beacon of hope, faith, and transformation across Kurdistan and the wider Middle East. The church is committed to raising up strong local leadership, equipping believers through sound biblical teaching, and extending practical love to the most vulnerable in the region.
HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES
Hiwa Church is deeply engaged in humanitarian service, particularly among Syrian refugees at the Barika refugee camp. In partnership with the non-profit organization Neighbors to Nations (N2N), the church offers a wide range of services at the camp, including skill development courses and microbusiness initiatives designed to promote self-sufficiency, the operation of the only primary healthcare center serving the camp, and an education sponsorship program supporting refugee children and orphans.
MINISTRIES
Over the years, several distinct ministries have emerged from Hiwa Church to serve the growing needs of its congregation and community. These include the Hope Bible Institute, which trains and equips believers in biblical and theological studies; the Hiwa Bookstore and Library, providing access to Christian literature and resources; the Translation Ministry, which supports language accessibility for teaching and outreach materials; the Hiwa Retreat Center and Safe House, offering a place of rest, refuge, and spiritual renewal; the Counseling Center, providing pastoral and emotional support; and Hiwa Studio, the church's media and podcast ministry used to extend its teaching and testimony beyond the walls of the church.
ACTIVITIES, SEMINARS, EVENTS AND WEEKLY SERVICE MEETINGS
Hiwa Church maintains an active calendar of ministry programs and gatherings throughout the year. Highlights include an annual Youth Conference, along with a variety of seminars and workshops held throughout the year. The church also runs dedicated ministries for Youth, Children, Men, and Women, and hosts monthly worship nights that draw the congregation together in extended times of praise. The church's regular weekly service takes place every Friday beginning at 11:00 AM, serving as the anchor gathering for the congregation and community each week.
