History of the Council

The story, legal recognition, and mission of the Kurdish Church Ministers and Churches Alliance.

History of the Council

The Kurdish Church Ministers and Churches Alliance was once a vision and a sacred goal shared by a small group of early believers who came to faith during the 1990s. This small group made a firm decision to build the Church upon the Rock that Christ spoke of to Peter. They were determined to establish the Kurdish Church throughout the towering mountains, cities, and towns of Kurdistan.

After more than thirty years, and following the growth and flourishing of the Kurdish Church in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq—with officially recognized churches, congregations, and house churches—the Lord’s blessing made it possible to establish this Council.

The Council consists of churches whose members speak the Kurdish language and come from various backgrounds, including Muslim, Kakai, Zoroastrian, and other communities. Its member churches include the Evangelical Peace Church and its branches, the independent Hewa Church, the independent Azadi Church, as well as the Ana Baitayz Church and its branches in different cities, including Erbil, Duhok, Zakho, and the Kurdistan Church in Sulaymaniyah.

In addition, the Council includes church fellowships and congregations in towns such as Halabja, Kalar, Qaladze, and Ranya, as well as many villages and smaller communities throughout the region.

The Kurdistan Regional Government has granted official recognition and authorization to this Council. This legal status enables the Alliance to organize conferences, carry out humanitarian activities, translate spiritual and Christian literature, and publish such materials officially with the approval of the Ministry of Culture of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
